WOODSIDE Camp Swim Schedule:
All Woodside campers (boys & girls) have swimming scheduled Monday thru Thursday each and every week.
POOL LOCATIONS
Woodside campers swim at the new pool onsite at Woodside High School.
Los Altos campers swim at the beautiful new pool at Fremont High School. Located in Sunnyvale, at the corner of Fremont and Sunnyvale-Saratoga Ave.
TRANSPORTATION TO THE POOL (For Los Altos camp only)
For our Los Altos campers we use a standard 72 passenger school bus with our own driver. Los Altos campers travel Grant Rd. to Fremont Ave. south to Fremont high school. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes.
LIFEGUARDS
The are 2-3 certified lifeguards watching the water at our Woodside site and 4-5 at our Los Altos site. Additionally, camp staff are either watching from the deck or in the water playing with and supervising the campers. There is approximately 1 staff member per each 7 campers at the pool.
SWIM TEST
All campers who wish to use the deep end of the pool will be required to take a very simple swim test their first day at the pool. They will be asked, one at a time, to swim the width of the shallow end of the pool using any stroke they desire. Camp staff and lifeguards are in the pool during the test to grab any camper who might flounder. Very weak swimmers will be identified and will be restricted to a shallow area reserved for them. If you know that your child will not be able to pass this test please notify us in advance by adding a note on the registration form. We can save your child from the anxiety and possible embarassment of the test and pre-place them into our shallow area reserved for weak swimmers.
SPECIAL AREA OF THE POOL FOR WEAK OR NON-SWIMMERS
Campers who are unable to swim or who are weak swimmers are identified with neon wrist bands and restricted to the shallow area of the pool. There is a lifeguard watching that area as well as an appropriate number of camp staff in the water. Additionally, flotation devices such as kickboards and "noodles" are available. We use a lane line to delineate that area and the campers can also use that line to hold onto if necessary.
The campers who use this area always have a great time there.

Please note that we schedule the younger boys and older boys into the pool at separate times. That way there is never any danger that our younger boys might be caught up in or intimidated by any of the more energetic and physical play of the older boys.
BASIC INSTRUCTION
Some very basic instruction is offered to the weak/non-swimmers. However, swimming is primarily recreational. The instruction we provide should not be considered a replacement for professional lessons. We MAY be offering swim lessons at additional cost to our campers at our Woodside camp only. These lessons would be available OUTSIDE OF normal camp hours (e.g. before camp at 8:30 am - 9:00 am or after camp at 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm)
NUMBER OF SWIMMERS IN THE POOL
Woodside Campers: We average approximately 50 campers at a time in the water. Exclusive use of the pool. No outside groups or persons will be sharing the pool with us.
Los Altos Campers: We average approximately 70 campers at a time in the water. The pool is open to the public but generally no more than 10-20 other children from outside our camp share the pool with our campers. The pool is new, very large and uncrowded.
LOCKERROOM/BATHROOM SAFETY
Campers are never allowed into the changing room/restroom unsupervised.
